Information for patients, home care clients and aged care residents and families

Your ongoing cooperation in helping to keep patients, residents, clients and staff safe is appreciated as many of the people in our care are vulnerable.

Please do not visit a Calvary service if you:

  • have tested positive with COVID-19 and for 7 days after you tested positive;
  • have any cold or flu-like symptoms, including;
    • fever (37.5C or higher), cough, sore or scratchy throat, shortness of breath, runny nose, loss of smell or loss of taste
  • are a close contact of a person with confirmed COVID-19 and are within their self-isolation period;
  • live in a household with a person who is currently self-isolating; and/or
  • are waiting for a COVID-19 test result

Other ways you can protect yourself and others include:

  • staying up to date with your recommended vaccinations, including COVID-19 and Influenza
  • taking a rapid antigen test before visiting to ensure you are not spreading COVID-19
  • wearing a mask
  • frequently washing your hands thoroughly for at least 20 seconds with soap and water, or cleaning your hands using an alcohol-based hand rub
  • covering your nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing with a tissue or a flexed elbow
  • maintaining physical distancing

Visiting a Calvary aged care home during COVID-19

At Calvary, we make every conceivable effort to support resident wellbeing. This includes facilitating visitors to maintain ongoing connections with loved ones and reduce the impact of social isolation.

Calvary is aware of the current community transmission rates and is asking visitors to take extra precautions for the safety of our residents.

 

Visitors should not enter a residential aged care home if they have:

  • Any acute respiratory symptoms
  • Tested positive for COVID-19 (for at least 7 days after the positive test, unless agreement has been reached with the Home Manager (e.g. for compassionate reasons).
  • Are waiting for a COVID-19 or other respiratory pathogen test result.

 

During this time:

  • Visitors are requested to wear surgical masks on entering and throughout the home
  • Rapid Antigen testing is encouraged prior to entry.
  • Boosters of COVID-19 and annual influenza vaccines are strongly encouraged.

Calvary Home Care is committed to supporting our clients as we all face the challenges of managing COVID-19. We want to reassure our clients, their carers and families that Calvary has taken the necessary steps in the way we operate. These measures ensure we are adhering to the Commonwealth Department of Health recommendations to minimise the risk of spread of infection.

  • Staff are vaccinated against COVID-19.
  • Support Workers affirm that they are fit to work by completing a daily self-declaration.
  • Support Workers may be required to wear personal protective equipment (masks, apron, gloves, eye wear) based on service type delivered.
  • Support Workers are provided with all the equipment they need to ensure safe delivery of care.
  • Support Workers have completed training in infection control and the correct use and removal of personal protective equipment.
  • Support Workers are provided with hand hygiene training and are supplied with hand sanitiser to use regularly throughout the day.
  • Support Workers screen each of their clients before they enter a home to provide a service.
  • Support Workers have completed government COVID-19 authorised training.
  • Support Workers are not permitted to work if they show any signs or symptoms of COVID-19. We reinforce to our teams the importance of maintaining 1.5m distance (where possible), cough and sneeze etiquette, and ensuring they keep any equipment they use clean.
  • Calvary employees follow the relevant state/territory guidelines when managing COVID-19 cases.

    Calvary Riverina Hospital

    At Calvary Riverina Hospital, we understand that having visitors is an important part of ensuring the well-being and recovery of our patients. Currently we are only allowing two (2) visitors at any time. We do offer flexible visiting hours, but we do request visitors respect our rest period between 1:00pm and 3:00pm. Our Hospital doors are locked between 8:00pm to 7:00am. Please reach out to the Hospital on 02 6923 2200, should you need to visit someone during this time and we will endeavour to meet this request.

    Masks must be worn at all times whilst in the Hospital. As per NSW Health guidelines, masks must be worn at all times whilst in the Hospital.

    Screening questions remain in place for all visitors and staff.

    Hand hygiene is important. Remember to please use the hand sanitiser stations at the entrance and throughout the hospital regularly.

    Update to SA Hospitals patients and visitors guidelines

    Calvary Adelaide, North Adelaide and Central Districts hospitals

     

    Visitors

    Across our SA hospitals, visitors (except for children under 12) will only be required to wear surgical masks in high risk areas, specifically; Oncology, Intensive Care, Special Care Nursery/Neonates and Emergency Department.  Masks will be available at entry points to these areas.  Routine wearing of surgical masks is no longer required in other areas.

    Please do not visit if you have COVID-19 or if have any respiratory infection symptoms.

     

    Screening and testing for patients

    Screening and testing for patients will be undertaken on arrival/admission for ALL patients. Rapid Antigen testing (RAT) is required only for patients with respiratory infection symptoms.  A PCR may be undertaken if the RAT is negative and respiratory infection including COVID-19 is suspected.

    Where respiratory infection risk is identified (i.e. patient is symptomatic), the patient should be placed on airborne precautions in a single room.  Treatment options for patients who return a positive RAT / PCR / respiratory viral panel will be discussed with the treating medical practitioner.

    Calvary Lenah Valley and Calvary St John’s Hospitals in Hobart

    • Visitors must be well prior to entering the Hospital, no new respiratory or gastrointestinal symptoms such as cough, sore throat, temperature or diarrhoea.

     

    • Visitors must not have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the last 7 days, nor have been a close contact of a COVID-19 case in the past 7 days.

     

    • Generally, the wearing of masks within our facilities is now optional, however some areas of the hospital are still following mask protocols. Please follow regulations as required in these areas.

    • Visitors hours are preferred between 12 noon and 6pm daily, however we do support flexible/unrestricted hours.

      Calvary St Luke’s and Calvary St Vincent’s Hospitals in Launceston.

      Due to the increases in community transmission of Covid-19 /Omicron, the following changes are effective 6 January 2022.

      • Visiting hours are 2 pm – 8 pm each day with a maximum of two visitors at a time.
      • It is no longer a requirement from Calvary for a patient to complete a PCR test prior to admission
      • All patients presenting for admission at Calvary Launceston will complete a point of admission Rapid Antigen Test at our Clinics set up in a Reception area.
