Angela Manganas | Home Manager at Bayview
Inspired by International Women’s Day this month, and in support of the #celebratingwomeninagedcare campaign we are profiling some of the wonderful women working for Japara.
Today, we would like to acknowledge Angela Manganas, our wonderful Home Manager at Japara Bayview. We asked Angela to tell us some more about herself and her work in aged care.
What you do – both at work and outside of work?
I am a mother of three grown children and grandmother of five beautiful grandchildren – four boys and one girl. As Home Manager at Bayview, I am responsible for our residents’ care and welfare. I assist families and residents with the transition from their home into our home. Here, they become a part of our extended family. I assist staff with their roles and often their personal issues. I am responsible for the budget within the home and am supported by my leadership team, who make my job so much easier.
When you left school what job did you imagine you would be doing now? And if you didn’t want to work in aged care what happened to get you in this industry?
When I left school I went straight into nursing and I then became a midwife. I have only worked in aged care for 11 years. When I moved to Tasmania the closest place of work was an aged care facility, so I fell into the role of Clinical Care Consultant. I moved to Japara Healthcare in 2014, when we moved back to Victoria to be closer to family, and I enjoy mostly every day I go to work.
What do you wish people knew about working in aged care?
I wish people knew how much the staff care for our residents and how hard they work to bring a smile to their faces.
