Claire and Joe, together 61 years

We are lucky to have Claire and Joe as part of our Japara Kirralee community in Ballarat (VIC). The couple recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary, and we loved hearing the story of how they met and their early life together.

Claire and Joseph (Joe) met in Trewhella, in country Victoria when they were teenagers. Joe tells how he was instantly smitten, while Claire says she wasn’t so sure at first. Luckily, Joe is a patient man and three years later, when Claire was 18, she decided to give him a go. They courted for two years, before marrying on the 24th of January 1958, and honeymooning at Mt Gambier.

Claire and Joe returned to Clunes, where they began managing the 336-acre farm where Claire was born and raised. The couple enjoyed the country life, farming sheep, cattle & crops until eventually retiring and moving Japara Kirralee last year for a well-earned rest.

Thank you for sharing your story Claire and Joe, and congratulations on 61 years together!
