Greek Orthodox Funeral at Central Park
Japara Central Park recently held its first funeral for a Greek Orthodox resident. The deceased resident and her husband have no other family, so we gladly offered to hold the funeral service at our home in Windsor.
Jenson’s Funeral Service helped facilitate proceedings and source an appropriate Priest to provide a cultural service. The team at Central Park arranged for the casket to be brought into a private room with the resident’s favourite flowers covering the casket and the service was attended by the resident’s husband, our Home Manager, staff and case workers. The ceremony was then followed by refreshments.
It was an incredibly moving event and provided a welcome opportunity for our staff to attend and support her husband in saying goodbye.
We regularly hold memorial services for residents and their families, but this occasion was our first service with a casket. Now, Japara Central Park has decided to offer funeral services to future residents if they desire.
Farewell of honour
The home is also introducing a new ‘farewell of honour’ for when a resident passes away. During the ceremony, a beautiful silk quilt is laid over the residents casket and staff and residents will line up to each place a flower on top as it passes along.
At Japara, we are eager and committed to honouring the lives of our residents and providing loving support to each other as we say farewell.
