Japara partners with the Royal Melbourne Hospital

Our Yarra West home (Yarraville, VIC) has recently partnered with the Royal Melbourne Hospital to trial the effectiveness of a new behaviour management monitoring, assessment and evaluation website.

Our staff at the home have commenced working closely with Dr Samantha Loi, Senior Lecturer and Neuropsychiatrist from the RMH Neuropsychiatry Unit who designed the Symptoms Assessment Manager (SAM) website, which has successfully been trialled at the hospital.

Yarra West is the first residential home to trial the SAM website, which is designed to provide an efficient web based interface to assess and record the complexity and frequency of resident behaviours, and review the effectiveness of a range of staff and environmental interventions to support improved resident wellbeing.

SAM provides staff with a real time, web based tool which will enable staff to quickly and efficiently enter resident behavioural symptoms and interventions.

Behaviour management graphs are immediately populated which enables staff to easily interpret and ascertain when the behaviours are occurring, the severity of these behaviours and the effectiveness of interventions employed by staff.

This is an exciting partnership between Japara Yarra West and the Royal Melbourne Hospital, and we look forward to the outcomes of this trial.
