Meet Gayle Dougherty – South West Rock’s Home Manager

Having worked in aged care for the past 15 years, Gayle Dougherty brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to her new role as Home Manager at Japara South West Rocks.

Gayle, who has previously worked in quality roles and as a home manager, recently made the move from Geelong to South West Rocks to work for Japara.

The home, which caters for 80 residents, is located minutes from the river and ocean and has beautiful views of Smoky Cape and towards the Yarahappinni Ranges.

The amazing location means residents enjoy fishing, walks along the foreshore, checking out the morning’s catch at the local fishing co-op and, at this time of year, whale watching.

“Going on driving trips along the coast to see if we can spot any whales is really popular with residents,” Gayle said.

The South West Rocks Lifestyle Team is always actively looking for new opportunities to offer residents.

“The lifestyle program is really driven by the residents and what they like to do,” Gayle said. “We get to know each individual resident and understand if there’s anything they miss doing or if there’s something they’d like to learn. Our ‘living life as usual’ philosophy means that residents are supported to continue on with the rich sense of community which the town is known for, and continue to participate in their interests and everyday activities as much as they would like to.”
