Nilu Morawaka, Home Manager at Japara Central Park

When did you start working in the aged care industry?

I have always been passionate about the aged care industry and began my career in 2008 as a Registered Nurse. I then progressed to a Clinical Care Manager role, developing the clinical and management skills needed to be a strong leader to my team so that we can provide the best healthcare possible to the residents we support, and I’ve been an aged care Home Manager for several years now.

Tell us about your journey with Japara?

I was the Home Manager at a 96-bed aged care home when I first heard about the opportunity at Japara Central Park. When researching the role, I thought the home sounded like a beautiful environment to both live and work, and Japara’s values resonate with my own personal values, so I was keen to join the team. I have been the Home Manager at Central Park now for almost a year and feel honoured to be working with such a passionate and supportive team.

What do you enjoy best about working with Japara?

I love working with our senior residents, enriching their everyday lives and ensuring they get the best care and enjoyment from their time at Central Park.

There’s such a positive culture within Japara; everyone has a friendly attitude and the Executive team provide great support for our home staff, which really helps to reinforce that, although we are all, Japara is like one big family.

What do you enjoy best about Central Park?

It’s a beautifully styled and well-kept home, but the wonderful staff here are what give Central Park its welcoming and home-like atmosphere. I love coming to work each day in a place full of happy residents, relatives, and staff, and I’m so proud of the positive environment we have created.
