Paul and Maggie, a love story

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day and celebrating love, staff at Japara Hallam (VIC) sat down with a very special couple, Paul and Maggie, to find out about their love story.

Paul was born in Cypress and lived in England, before moving with his family to Australia and attending school in Adelaide. Maggie was born in England and emigrated with her family to Australia when she was two years old.

The couple’s worlds collided when they met in Clayton (Melbourne) while Paul was working in a workshop and Maggie was doing voluntary work with disabled children. They both say it was love at first sight, and it wasn’t long until Paul asked Maggie to marry him. The couple had a beautiful wedding ceremony on 22 October 1998, which is also Paul’s birthday.

Since then, there has been no looking back, with the couple saying “we are very happy and fall in love everyday.”

“We have had the best relationship and lots of fun times together.”

When asked what advice they would give other couples, Maggie says “love each other & be there for each other.”

Paul sums it up as “Maggie is my lady, I love her very much and always will do.”

“Love is the secret,” Paul says.

The staff at Japara Hallam wanted to make Valentine’s Day 2019 extra special for Paul and Maggie, and all the residents at Hallam, and organised a morning tea with a live entertainer and themed spread including gorgeous heart-shaped cookies, chocolate and barista coffees.
