Strzelecki House Angel Wings

The COVID-19 pandemic has been a challenging time for all of us, not least our aged care workers. Our beautiful residents at Japara Strzelecki House decided that they wanted to thank our staff for all their hard work, care and support. The lifestyle team came up with the vision to make Angel Wings.

Angel wings mounted on a wall

Our project started with a craft session where we chose 6 designs for our residents to use, ranging from a basic feather to a more detailed pattern to add colour and depth to the wings. Residents have spent the last few months decorating feathers during craft sessions or during their own quiet time.

We found that completed feathers were coming back to our lifestyle team just as quick as we could print them. The high volume meant that staff were cutting the feathers out during their break times and at home after work.

Once we had enough feathers, our lifestyle team drew an outline for the wings. Residents then attached the feathers and painted our sign to go above the wings.

After we had finished decorating, we invited all our staff members to stand in front of the angel wings and have their photo taken.

Thank you to all of our staff for making this project happen and for being so amazing during such difficult times.
