Student Placements in Aged Care

As Australia faces an ageing population due to the mass retirement of our large baby boomer population over coming years, demand for healthcare and in particular aged care services is set to soar to an all-time high.

Although the aged care sector already employs a sizeable portion of the Australian workforce, with an estimated 352,000 employees as of 2012, the need for even more compassionate and trained individuals to care for our elderly is a given.

This is where quality providers such as Japara play an important role in training the next generation of Australia’s aged care workers who will meet this growing demand, reducing the strain on our public healthcare system in the process. Through our Student Placement program, Japara is committed to supporting this important social objective by offering clinical placements to a variety of aged care and nursing students every year. This also fulfils an important role in attracting more young blood into an industry where the average age of employees is 49 years.

How do our aged care student placements work?

Japara offer a number of clinical placements for students currently studying Aged Care courses at Certificate III or IV level, or nursing courses through a Diploma or Degree Competition for these student placements is very high and therefore Japara recommends applicants and their tertiary institution allow a minimum of 4 weeks for their application to be processed and approved. Placements are usually full-time and take place between Monday-Friday, which not only allows students an immersive experience in one of our 43 facilities across the country but also allows for the placement to be completed over a shorter period of time than would normally be the case. Applications are open to students completing relevant courses through a classroom delivery model. Our Student Placement page contains further information placements, including relevant request forms & information for registered training organisations.
