Trugo Place: Q&A with Tom

Trugo Place is our brand new Japara Home opening in early 2021. The development manager for Japara Trugo Place is Tom Davies, who has been leading the development process from start to finish and at every stage in between. We asked Tom a few questions to find out the progress that has been made at Trugo Place since its inception and what we should expect when it opens early next year.

What was your vision when designing Trugo Place?

The architecturally designed building was created to be sympathetic to the neighbourhood and surrounding environment. This includes a detailed brick façade, which speaks to the rich history of the inner west as a working-class area, and the placement of north-facing communal spaces that capture the beautiful outlook over Newport Lakes.

What are some of the highlights of this new Japara home?

The expansive entry lobby and high-end amenity located off the main thoroughfare present an opportunity for a hive of social activity for residents. Communal areas are also flooded with natural light and there are external vistas towards Port Phillip Bay and Newport Lakes.

We know that all our Japara homes have something special about them but what sets Trugo Place apart from our other homes?

Its setting adjacent to Newport Lakes brings in a sense of calm to the living spaces and this is complemented by a suite of high-quality amenity offerings, including a cinema, café and men’s shed.

Did you consider environmental factors in its design?

Yes, significant efforts were made to ensure the building is ecologically sustainable and efficient. For example, we have external battens and fins to create external shading around windows.

Did you face any barriers throughout this process due to COVID-19? If so, how did you adapt to these?

The construction process experienced delays due to limitations on the number of workers. However, we implemented innovative shift sequencing and construction staging to mitigate these impacts.
