Wendy McLochlan | Home Manager at Mirridong
In celebration of International Women’s Day and the #celebratingwomeninagedcare campaign we are profiling some of the wonderful Japara women throughout the month of March.
Here, Wendy McLochlan talks about her role of Home Manager at Japara Mirridong (Bendigo, VIC).
As a Home Manager, my role is to coordinate the various services within our home:
These are all vital aspects of running our home, along with maintaining the Accreditation Quality system, occupancy and budgets, customer service and promotion of the home.
Outside of work, I am a wife, mother and sister. My hobbies include genealogy, gardening the house block (situated on 15 acres), my tortoiseshell cat Missy and visiting my son in Melbourne.
As a young girl I always knew I wanted to be a nurse and once I completed school I went straight into hospital-based nursing training at Albury Base Hospital, which took 3 years to finish. I was awarded my Division 1 Nurse Certification and Registration.
After holding a variety of nursing jobs – theatre, GP clinic, pathology collection, general wards, TAFE campus nurse – I wanted a career change and was interested in entering the aged care sector. I worked in various positions, such as Care Coordinator, Deputy Facility Manager, Facility Manager, and Regional Manager until gaining my current position at Mirridong.
